VT278 (DECMate1) -> VT100?

A chart that I have implies that serial communication would
be via the 'DP278 communications option', so look for that.

Serial terminal communication was standard on the Rainbow
100, the VK100 GiGi, and the VT180 CP/M machine, so
there's probably a good chance you have it.
