I know the 4000/500 requires VMS 5.5 or better.  7.2 is plenty snappy on
my 4000/vlc in 24 megs of RAM.  It's nice. :)  Since I remember reading
about the VLC *after* the university I worked at got the 4000/500 I'm going 
to assume it wants 5.5 as well.
