Origin of company names Apple & Atari - verify?

Rumor has it Steve Jobs was eating an Apple when they decided to name 
their company.  I think this rumor was debunked, but the real story 
eludes me.
I believe the one behind Atari...where the hell else would you get a name 
like that?  I think Atari is a cool name though.
