The Wilson Preselector, as I recall it, qualifies as a direct ancestor of
the current genre of transmissions used in the present Formula 1
machines. Obviously there are differences in operation, but they were a
generation or so ahead of everyone else. I recall them from the early
sixties, and they were not new then!
