I can't remember the exact sequence, but I think it's press and hold
the reset followed by the nmi then release, I'll have to check the
docs to be sure. You do this while the machine is on, trying to
boot. This should reset the machine and put into the sleeping
state. You can then press a key to wake it up. Sometimes the
portable gets into a funky state and doing the above will clear it up.
 This happens mostly when the battery starts to flake out, as it has
enough power to start coming up, but then poops out.
