This seems to me like the most likely issue. Replace that battery; it's
been 11 years, and that seems to be the life expectancy of these
batteries. I believe this issue is addressed in the (woefully out of
date) comp.sys.next FAQ. If nothing else there will be articles archived
in dejanews which discuss this topic, and may provide a source for a new
battery.

If replacing the battery doesn't solve your problem, let me know and I'll
see what else I can come up with.
