If it's a variable record length tape, and you need to perserve that,
you can use my program "tapecopy" to either copy it to a more modern
tape media such as DDS 2 or Exabyte 8mm (just like tcopy), or to a
tape image file in John Wilson's format.

The source code for tapecopy is available at:

However, it is not in any way specific to DEC 36-bit computers.
