Really OT: Any tar experts here?

Well if you're going to be that way about it.
        Short answer : use CPIO
        Long answer : specify all the leafs and don't specify
                any directories.
        Longer answer : ../src/gnu/usr.bin/tar
                make it do anything you want :-)
