I can't speak for the EPROM legend, having never heard it,
but I do know some folks that did this with DRAM. Basically,
they took the top off a ceramic DRAM (IIRC, it was a 16Kx1;
this was some time ago) and arranged for an image to be
focussed on the DRAM.
