Having worked on both (although in the case of the DPS-6 only briefly) I'm
fairly sure that they're not. For one thing IIRC, GCOS-6 and GCOS-8 were at
least somewhat different.

What someone really needs to do is write a freeware emulator for the DPS-8.
I know at least one commercial DPS-6 emulator exists. And, no, I'm not
about to tackle writing one.

Personally I think the DPS-6 is a bit boring, but a multiprocessor DPS-8
configuration is a really cool piece of hardware!
