There are a number of similar projects ongoing. One in particular I will
mention is to put a complete PDP-10 processor on an FPGA.

My image is a black box into which can be downloaded any processor
architecture allowing that processors software to be run. Of course the
processor is only one part of the picture I/O bings in a whole host of
new problems.
