^ as a pipe still works in 'sh' (Bourne shell) but not in 'ksh' (Korn
shell). I don't know about 'bash'.

_at_ to erase a line is a different issue; that's a function of stty (the norm
these days is ctrl-U), like DEL vs ctrl-C.
