There are still intelligent people on IRC and other chat systems. It's
just very hard to find them. I gave up on IRC for many years, until I
discovered #perl on EFnet (which has since moved to Magnet). I learned a
lot about perl there, met some very cool folks. We have that ellusive
"community" that the 'net was supposed to give us.

But I agree that most of IRC is painful.
