World Trade crash...

Supposedly the building was deliberatly designed to take the impact of a 707
impact, it was part of the design specifications, and as such, they had
steel girders every 3 feet, as opposed to every 6-10 feet. What caused the
structure to fail was that the jets that hit it were all long haul jets that
had not gone very far, causing them to have full fuel loads, the heat caused
by the fuel fires reached 1500c (or so I have heard), causing the girders to
weaken, and then the thing went. All things considered, we are luck those
buildings held up that long.
