It's the IO port device (decode and register control). It's not quite
standard
PDP-8 but it is generally useful.

UART. The DMIII had D7201 {intel 8274} dual USARTs, not common but useful
as it's nearly identical to the Z80 SIO but, intended for
8080/8085/8088/8086
style busses.
