NACK. At work I have a P III 650, 256MB RAM, 30GB HDD, Linux 2.4. During
disk IO this *(#%$!_at_%*& feels slower than a MV III with 4.3BSD-Tahoe.

Last October I purchased an Alpha for ~500 EUR. This is affordable.
Fife jears old, 500MHz EV56 CPU, 192 MB RAM (meanwhile 640MB), 4GB HDD
(SCSI!), Tru64 UNIX. Runns circles around a much newer, "better, bigger,
faster" PeeCee when it has to do IO.
Not to talk about the absence of the typical PeeCee idiosyncrasys and
the much higher hardware quality. It "Just Runs Forever" (C) (R) (TM).

Only my 0.01 EUR.
