SCSI 9-Track tape under VMS..?

Are you sure that you don't have the version of the 88780 tape drive
with differential SCSI? That was common on server systems. Note that
this is not LVD (low voltage differential), it's the original style
differential, which is now sometimes referred to as HVD.

It used to be possible to buy the single-ended SCSI board for that
drive from HP, but not any more. :-(

If you look around, you can sometimes find PCI differential SCSI
host adapters cheap.
