I've corresponded with the gentleman a little. He seems like a nice
enough guy, if a bit richer than most of us.
I have been able to win a few items he's been interested in but it has
cost me. He is hard to outbid.

I think it was the earliest serial # Apple II to go on sale (#2000 I
believe). The fact that it had document + in working condition was a
big plus.
I'm not sure I would have paid $3800 though.
Btw - Does anyone know who the guy at ebay user id 'abeclassic' is? I
wish I had his deep pockets...he bids on a lot of things and definitely
outspends everyone. Some times I wonder if it's worth bidding on if he
his even thinking about the same item.
