The AS 1000 series also has a tricky memory scheme. It actually requires 5
SIMMs per bank. It uses the first 4 as one would normally expect, and uses
the 5th for ECC.

I managed to find the manual for the AS1000 on DEC/Compaq/HP's ftp server,
so you might be able to find the one for your system too. I believe it was
linked from a Compaq support web page of some sort.
