If you hear strange noises during seek operations, this is a "special
feature" of the disks when mounted in a 3000/300X (IIRC): the box seems
to act as a resonator for some (not much!) noise coming from the drive,
so it will sound like it's scratching the bits into the disk's surface.
So, as long as it happens only when seeking, don't bother about it, or
redesign the box to avoid the amplification effects ;-)
