It's chintzy virtual reality technology, but by far the cheapest and more
effective than blue/red 3d glasses :) They don't have them on low-end 3d
cards cause the graphics processor has to render the scene twice, once for
each eye, and double the framerate and refresh rate for the same scene. For
instance, to get the equivalent of a 60Hz referesh rate using shutter
glasses the card has to put out 120Hz, pretty intense, especially at higher
resolutions. My old boss had a GeForce with shutter glasses. They worked OK,
kinda flickery, but Unreal Tournament looked pretty cool jumping out of the
screen like that.

I have used really high-end helmet mouted display setups. They were awesome,
but cost upwards of $20K. An Asus GeForce3 Deluxe is around $400-500. There
isn't much of a middle ground :)
