NetBSD works better on the VAX. I suggest that you check it out. It runs
on a far wider variety of hardware than FreeBSD.

Depends on what you mean by "classic". If you want to do UNIX on PDP-11,
2.11BSD is probably your best bet. On VAX, it's probably NetBSD. But VMS
is quite a bit nicer on VAX than UNIX is, IMHO.
