  There's an issue with dead nvram that plagues a lot of the older
Sparcs, and will stop the autoboot. IIRC, that problem _always_ sets
the MAC address to ffffffffffff, so it should be easy to check.
  I do remember that the ELC will still boot, but you have to manually
fix the MAC and boot path on every power-cycle.
