I did not suggest old versions were widely available, but you can
find distro kits on eBay from time to time.

It's true that full-on Solaris licenses are many kilobucks. You can
frequently get the latest version for home use (one processor-per-box
limit which you satisfy) for free or at most the cost of media. I
purchased originals from Sun that way for Solaris 7 and 8. The problem
is that they don't sell anything older than the current version and
you can't use the current version.

Best option is eBay or mailing lists like this one.
