Some years back I built a serial adapter for use with HPIB (IEEE 488)
plotters such as the 9872. It was based on a 1 MHz Rockwell R6511Q
microprocessor, which is a 6502 derivative. I implemented the IEEE 488
protocol entirely in software. It wasn't too difficult.
