Ian I think he means your drive and controller.
Have you told the list what controllers you're using?

Nine track tapes tend to be pretty interchangeable
across a given density (800bpi,1600bpi,etc.)
I never sweated the Formatted/Streaming issue before
now though. Could a list member comment if Those
tapes are interchangeable?

Here's another quick suggestion.
There's a fair chance that your hard drive has a working O/S on it too.
