HP 262x terminal help sought

I pulled out my best ADM-3 the other day... kept in a cool (65-75 F),
dry basement and the same blasted thing has happened to it. Fortunately,
I also have a ratty one that I haven't had as long and its CRT is OK
(though a little image burned). I'll get around to swapping the CRTs
this weekend (hopefully). Did anybody figure out what causes this?
