Was that a DA15 connector?
DE9: used for "modern" serial ports, CGA, MDA, etc.
DE15: aka HD15, same shell as DE9, but with 3 rows of pins, used for
common VGA
DA15: used for PC joystick, some network card, some Apple monitors
DB25: used for "old-style" (REAL) serial ports, also for PC parallel port,
and some SCSI ports
DB9: commonly misused for DE9. VALID use is for common implementation of
RS232 using a DB25 connector with only pins 1 through 8 and 20.
