FWIW, I've been jobless for the last 7 years.

And a couple of weeks back I borrowed a _very rare_ machine (there are
something like 13 left in the world) with the sole purpose of pulling it
apart to invenstigage the design. It was working perfectly before I took
it apart -- there was no real need to do it other than my curiousity (and
just in case you're wondering, it worked fine after I put it back
togeter).
Had I done something stupid, I am not sure how I would have replaced it.
