Don't know anything about HP computers.
But I marvelled years ago at guys programming on an HP1000.

Their terminals had a rotary switch for baud rate at the upper left.
To freeze a listing that was scrolling by on their terminal,
they'd !quick! roll the switch to 0 baud or something, then !quick! roll it
back.

What a kludge compared to Xon/Xoff ^S ^Q that decent terminals like the
VT52/VT100 used. :-)

They had a stack of keyboards, guess they wore the switches out.
