Some Portable Plues in the UK were fitted with Panasonic 'block' lead
acid battereis which are even more of a pain!. I believe they were
available recently, but the minimum order was 1000 units or sometime
ridiculous.

The 2.5Ah Cyclon cells are easily available and fit perfectly (my 110 and
Portable Pluese have those in them now). They also can be fitted in the
9114 disk drive battery packs and at least in the UK are a lot easier to
get than the block batteries (RS components and Farnell list them I think).
