Never!. I'd rather take the time to clean the heads properly than have to
hunt for a new head carriage and spend time aligning it.

Remove the drive from the machine, remove covers and PCB as necessary and
clean the heads with a cotton bud soaked in propan-2-ol (isopropyl
alcohol).
