I only have one drive for my DG's, and I've never been fortunate enough to
get another one so it will get the full-treatment :) Don't worry, you'll get
a chance to laugh at me when I crash it even after being so careful *GRIN*

Ok, that would be a new trick to me, but then, I have HP blinders on as I
haven't refurbed any non-HP drives yet. But on those at least, and I would
think the same for other fixed/removable combo drives... there is only one
voicecoil, moving one head assembly that holds all four heads. As a result,
you definitely can NOT run the drive with just the fixed platter. You have
to have a working removeable pack as well. But again, perhaps the DG drive
has independent head actuators for fixed and removable platters. Oh wait...
you said remove the heads! Hummm I wonder if that would work on a 7900A, ala
7901.
