I have a copy, given to me by a friend, and it's a really great
book. I see a later posting shows it available on a Smithsonian
website; thats great, its a great book.
It's also good because it focuses on a narrow part of a
technology, one that happens to have a beautiful artlike
component, and it also condenses the intellectual and materials
refinement through a narrow but critical period of time.
It's a good hint on how to iluminate history in other areas;
rather than an exhaustive enumeration of everything in some linear
line and discuss it, it snapshots milestones (though probably
limited by ability to get good photos and IP rights :-)
