We found batteries 'protected' that way on the production floor once.

Also, one time, receiving shipped back some SRAM the vendor had
mis-shipped (they shipped the 'normal' part not the 'low power' part)
stuck into plain-white styrofoam. They got into a bit of trouble over
it, needless to say.
