Just got backfrom a mini-vacation and saw what I had started.....Purely
unintentional I assure all of you.
I do find the discussion interesting. My wife and I attend "physical"
auctions [non-computer related] on a regular basis. It is quite common to
adjust ones bidding depending on who else is bidding on an item (this of
course refers to open bidding). If my wife sees a painting she likes, but
realizes that a collector with a reputation for "always getting what he
wants" is also bidding, then we will usually move on to another auction.
In the particular case of me looking for the identity of an eBay member, it
was primarily to determine if that person was a collector who would be using
the equipment (or at least keeping it for its intended purpose) or a
"scrapper" who might think it was good for gold or art.
I believe that there is a significant number of people on this list who
would be willing to spend money to "save" something, that they would pass by
(at least for the time being) if they knew it was going to a "good home".
