Hate to sound like a caveman* here, but for circuit boards, just affix some
kind of straightedge to the scanner and put the board against it.
The matching chore is reduced from 3 variables (X,Y,rot) to 1 (X).
The implementation is just a rectangular select&drag.
I do have an autopanorama program that I use but it arbitrarily rescales
and on top of that will fail spectacularly 10% of the time. For objects on
the scanner I would chose the easy way, above.
BTW, get a plastic second sheet to put on the glass for any repeated work.
the glass can scratch.
