Believe it or not, outside of pure scientific uses, I prefer the
non-decimal measuring system to the metric. I grew up using a
slide rule, and decimal points can be quite mischievous under the
metric system. Whereas the "unwieldy" conversions required by
using feet, gallons, horsepower etc. require just enough extra
attention that the decimal point's location is less likely to
slide to one side or the other in a result. Of course, nowadays
with the collection of factors in the Linux 'units' command
database, I just use whatever's in the provided data.
