Ok, here is one that is likely to sound a bit odd, but... (you asked for
it) B^}
Let the machine warm up for a while before running the test.
Core being rather timing sensitive, it has been related to me from another
local collector that his PDP-8 (yes, a 'straight' 8) with core is
completely useless until is has idled for thirty minutes to an hour
(depending on the ambient temperature) to allow internal temperatures to
stabilize.
He has mentioned sections that will refuse to store data, fail memory
tests, etc... All of which mysteriously vanish after a 'warm up' period.
