3.2 probably. 3.2.5 (the earliest I used at IBM was quite nice.
I'm still running some of 'em at Lucent. 4.x is very slick and
shows the SVR4 influcence and less OSF/BSD... but it's a real
workhorse.

That wasn't really AIX, though. Didn't it really start with Interactive
Unix at the root.
