And still more clues, when the power is plugged into the unit the Reader
solenoid engages and stays engaged. So it isn't like the reader is
"running" where something should cause the solenoid to disengage until the
character is printed and then to engage again, this is clearly
mis-operation and it is where I'm focussing my efforts at the moment.
