I had trouble with mine (back in the day) just running at 300 baud.
Everyone in the room had to be quiet, and the first time someone coughed
or sneezed, there went whatever was transferring (and sometimes the
connection). I tried all kinds of stuff to insulate the handset against
noise, with only a little success. It was heaven to upgrade that thing, so
I could finally blast Rush and Sabbath while downloading Atari ATASCII
movies...[wipes a tear]...sniff...
