        Not rubber, per se. The print hammer pads for the 32's and 33's were made
of some sort of bizarre plastic/rubber hybrid. For all I know, Teletype
Corporation patented the stuff...

        The accumulated goo is probably due more to ink than hammer-pad residue
(though it couldn't hurt to clean the typewheel -- good ole' 91% isopropyl
alky should work just fine).
