Actually the problem (melissa) is a Microsoft Macro Virus.

So, if you don't have any Microsoft products containing their Word Basic
Macro language you may not have any problem (no matter how bad a joke
their OS is).

The problem stems from a Macro language that can grab full control of your
system.

If my mail program on Unix could run SUID perl scrips out of the box
it would be just as bad.
