It should use the same bootstrap as a RL02 drive I believe. Do you have any
boot ROMs in the /44? I thought that the RL02 ROMs were pretty much
standard.

I suspect you can find a copy of a RL02 bootstrap at the Metalab (Sunsite)
PDP-11 archive.
