MS-DOS really doesn't put much demand on the system regardless of version,
AFAIK. If you find DOS 6 more comfortable and can afford the extra hard drive
space, go ahead.

It is definitely good to upgrade machines. When machines stop being upgraded,
that's when they turn into useless antiques.

All power to them! Time-typical setups are fine for museums, but if you're
going to actually use the computer in a day-to-day way, authenticity is a
minor concern.
