Are these the same drives that the MicroVax II use? If so, I can take a
picture of the legend on my drive.

Never done this myself, but I'd guess a magnetic tape eraser would do the
trick if you can't do this with a tape drive. I'd only do this if the tape
can be reformatted. DAT tapes are one type of tape I would never touch
with a magnetic tape eraser. Oh, and keep the tape eraser away from
monitors, computers, and disks :)
