addendum: the fd_mcs driver, oddly enough, is supposed to work better
with MCA adapters than fdomain.o, which is an ISA driver, but should
work, nevertheless.

also, that boot prompt restart command I mentioned is, er, probably
valid only for certain boot loaders, ie. Caldera.
