Well, perhaps, but I can't see anything wrong with, say, using "RJ45
plug" to refer to that particular 8-conductor plug, meaning, "the plug
used by RJ45", even if you're not actually using it for RJ45 purposes.
Except, I suppose, that it tends to increase the confusion about just
what RJ45 is.
